There's a new campaign in town. A campaign to raise awareness, appreciation and funds to support the Peoria Riverfront Museum. It's called Build the Block! And you'll soon be seeing the campaign in full swing all around the Peoria region.
For a few years Peoria has been hearing about the concept of having a riverfront museum as part of a larger development including the Caterpillar Experience. We've heard the development will be a beautiful addition to our riverfront. That's true, but The Block means so much more. It's not simply a brick-and-mortar facility with aesthetic appeal. Build the Block! will show Peoria that The Block is an exciting destination and an educational experience.
Be There and Be Square
To pique interest and educate the community on what a great addition The Block will be to our area, the fence surrounding the now-vacant property has been enhanced with intriguing graphics and fun information about what visitors will experience when the development is completed. Passersby will learn about The Block’s many offerings: the planetarium, a proposed IMAX Theater, Smithsonian exhibits, Oral History Center, Illinois River history, IHSA Peak Performance Center, Discovery Worlds for kids and Peoria history for all. They'll also catch a glimpse of the Caterpillar Experience, as well as the planned eco-friendly green space.
Become A Blockhead
When you support the The Block, you are supporting economic development for our entire region. The Block will be much more than a relocation and expansion of Lakeview Museum, much more than a stopping point for Caterpillar visitors, much more than a new theater and state-of-the-art planetarium. It will be all of these things, but most importantly, it will be an attraction for more than 350,000 visitors who will infuse $7 million to $14 million into Peoria County's economy each year. It will be a development the entire community can appreciate.
From an economic development standpoint alone, The Block represents an opportunity for the Peoria region to attract the workforce that will staff current businesses, as well as develop the future businesses that will set Peoria apart from other Midwest cities.
A community that offers a rich culture and leisure environment will always attract more visitors and ultimately more talent than a community without those amenities. The Block is poised to become a culture and leisure environment in and of itself. It will become a Peoria destination—a destination for visitors and residents alike.
Become a Blockhead and be proud of it. Help us Build the Block!
